Getting Married At Saltmarshe Hall, Yorkshire: A Guide To Wedding Styling
When you arrive at Saltmarshe Hall, the first thing that hits you is just how beautiful the outside of the venue is. It's really neutral, surrounded by loads of greenery and there are so many good spots for photographs, so you're already onto a winner before you've even stepped inside.
Then you've got the beautiful gardens, which I am desperate to do an outdoor ceremony in! Next year is hopefully my year and the weather is on our side.
There’s so much outdoor space for guests to enjoy, especially the swimming pool! Who doesn’t want a pool party the day before their wedding?
The inside is the perfect blank canvas…
Once you head inside, you've got that really modern, bright and neutral feel, which is completely my vibe. A beige girl’s dream is what I like to call it. It's a blank canvas, but not in a boring way. You've got a beautiful space to start with, and then you can actually decide what you want the wedding to look like rather than having to work around a really strong existing colour scheme.
And then there's the staircase leading up to the bridal prep room, which I absolutely love. The huge hanging light above it, and the photographs of the bride coming down with her bridesmaids make for the most gorgeous photos!
But it doesn't have to just be a pretty backdrop for photographs. The space underneath the staircase is another area I'd definitely make use of. You could have your welcome sign or table plan here, or go all out and create a lovely signage moment. You could style the staircase itself with florals, candles or other little details to make more of a feature of the space rather than leaving it empty.
There’s lots of options for the ceremony space…
If you're having an indoor ceremony at Saltmarshe Hall, the reception room works really well for this too. Because it's so bright and neutral, you can bring in whatever colour palette you've chosen and create a ceremony that feels completely different from the finished reception.
I'd always recommend thinking about how we can repurpose the flowers afterwards to make the most of your investment. Your ceremony flowers could be moved into the reception room, used around the top table or guest tables, or styled elsewhere in the venue so they get to have a second moment, and the same for the styling.
You've got lots of scope to move things around and use the same styling in different ways throughout the day.
You can have a unique reception design…
The reception room is bright and airy, and because it's a more rectangular shape, you don't necessarily have to go down the traditional wedding layout.
Obviously, you could have your top table with round guest tables around it, but you could also do something completely different. A horseshoe could work really well, or long rectangular tables, or even square tables depending on your guest numbers. I think the shape of the room gives you much more freedom to play around with the layout rather than just automatically putting a round table in every available space.
And this is where I'd really start bringing the styling in.
I'd definitely go for floor-length linen, because short linen is just a no from me (read my other loathes here). I'd use a soft patterned fabric or a subtle colour, depending on the couple and the overall design, then build the tables up with beautiful floral centrepieces, lots of candlelight, charger plates, napkins, cutlery and glassware.
Because the room is so neutral, you've got so much freedom with the colour palette. You can keep everything soft and subtle to tie in with the interior, or bring in pops of colour through the flowers and table details while still keeping it calm, balanced and full of atmosphere.
And then you've got the smaller areas to think about too. The cake table can be styled to become more of a feature rather than just somewhere to put the cake, and you could add signage at the front if you wanted to create another little moment within the room.

Basically, I am obsessed with Saltmarshe Hall…
You're getting a beautiful venue to start with, but you've also got so many opportunities to add your own styling throughout the day, from the ceremony and staircase to the welcome area, tables and cake.
You don't have to go completely over the top either. With the right linen, flowers, candlelight and stylist of course, you can completely change the venue while complimenting its interior. You can see how we did this perfectly here.
